Montefalco – Part 2

After a good night sleep (the bed in our room was very good!), we were ready to enjoy the breakfast provided by the accommodation; it was a very nice gesture to put the food in a portable wooden crate. We got some muffins, some sweets and a good cup of coffee, all in the Italian tradition!

After roaming around in order to take some pictures, we decided to scan the area in order to find a place where to have lunch: we quickly realised how much of a bad idea is to not have anything booked for the Easter Day! Everywhere we went we were turned down, until we arrived in Olevm; our initial intention was to try and eat here, as the place is highly rated. Unfortunately, it was fully booked, but luckily for us the owner took pity and recommend us to go in the restaurant called “Coccorone” and announce us as “XXX send us”.

Being a bit skeptical, we started walking in that direction and, in the true Italian tradition, we were given a table!

The place is really nice, between small streets that open up to a nice balcony; we were lucky enough to have great weather and also to have a table outside were to have our lunch. First thing we notice of this restaurant was the service: it was absolutely top level. The waiter would come over to the table, take the time to explain the menu, speak about the specials, suggest what was in season and give you all the time in the world to make the decision.

After reading all the menu approximately thirty times, we decided to get a shared appetiser, composed of Bruschetta and Pecorino Vecchio Stampo con Delizia al Sagrantino: as you probably can imagine, this was simply amazing. The cheese was incredible and the Sagrantino was once again giving an extra taste that made the dish extremely good; in addition to this, the bottle of Rosso di Montefalco, was a perfect match for the pecorino.

After the appetiser, we also decided to share one portion of fettuccine al Sagrantino, just to keep the “let’s cook in wine” momentum on!

As main dish, we followed the suggestion of the waiter and we went for a steak to divide between us. I could spend thousand of lines here to tell you that the meat was sourced from local producers, that it was cooked to perfection and that it was super tender and delicious. I could spend other thousand of lines in telling you how good it also looked, as I was called to actually choose the piece of meat and I was also lucky enough to check out the grill to be used.

I could, but instead I would just let you look at the picture, because that was insane.

Look at it.

Did you?

OK.

After almost crying from the wonderful main dish, I had the courage of ordering also a tiramisu and even in this case, I wasn’t wrong!

Our suggestion is to book this place for a meal, because it’s simply incredible and it shouldn’t be missed if you are going to Montefalco! In terms of price, it could be a bit more expensive than the places around, but its quality is outstanding and deserves the price tag.

After the amazing lunch, we spent the day wondering around and take additional million pictures!

You can go around Montefalco walking, the car is simply not needed unless you wish to visit the valley or the villages around it. The square was lively, the day was sunny and we enjoyed an aperitivo in the square, following the increasingly appealing Italian way of life.

For the dinner, now approaching, we had a reservation in the restaurant called “L’alchimista”, that came highly recommended.

As it happened pretty much everywhere in Montefalco, we were not disappointed.

The service was again top level, with the waiters explaining the menu, taking the time to have a chat with us and suggesting some wine. We decided to stick the local wines and the decision was obviously the right one!

We shared a dish of pasta cooked in Sagrantino wine (you have to have dishes of Sagrantino, there is no other way to eat in Montefalco!) and then moved on with the main dish, composed of beef cooked again in Sagrantino sauce and another dish composed of (again!) meat cooked with cheese on top.

Needless to say that the place is outstanding and the quality seems to be in line with what we experienced in Montefalco, if not a step further.

Our suggestion would be to book here for your dinner, as this place deserves all the praise!

Unfortunately our time was now running out and the next morning we left back to Rome.

This is a place that needs to be visited; the food is outstanding, the people are nice, the weather is warm and the wine is amazing. Do you really need any other reason to go?
